City of Mason City Hall/Police Department
The City of Mason’s project goals included a traditional, cost-effective design and a high-performance, flexible environment that would support growth and change. Features included underfloor air, abundant natural light, ‘green’ finishes, and explicit materials, brick, cast stone, and glass, to create a city hall that meets technological demands while retaining the formal character of those built decades ago. The result is a facility that portrays the City’s strength and stability while reducing energy consumption by 15 to 30%. Offering open, bright, collaborative spaces that encourage teamwork, the facility supports how people work and the processes in which they are engaged. The building’s shape also efficiently supports workplace reconfiguration.
