The Silva project at 975 Ottawa in Grand Rapids, Michigan, represents a transformative endeavor that seamlessly blends past and present, tradition and innovation, to create a dynamic space that contributes to the vibrancy of the city’s Monroe North neighborhood. Through thoughtful design and collaborative engagement, this renovation endeavor breathes new life into an iconic landmark, leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come. The 103-year-old, more than 60,000-square-foot building will include a restaurant, bar, private event space, and state-of-the-art bocce courts. The design concept for the Silva Project draws inspiration from the building’s rich history and architectural character while infusing it with an eclectic twist. The design team emphasized preserving original elements such as exposed brickwork and wooden beams.
